Being Human
I am very enthusiastic about the gallery’s current exhibition “Being Human”. It’s a duet between figurative artists Audrey Grant & Martyn McKenzie. It’s so good it’s heartbreaking. This exhibition means a lot to me. I believe that Audrey Grant could be our next great Scottish artist. I put her right up there with the greats like Barbara Rae and Joan Eardley.
I’m also so proud of 3rd year ECA student Martyn McKenzie. I’ve worked out why I am so taken by him as a person and his work. To me, he’s a symbol of hope for the future.
This photo was taken after the opening. It shows Martyn McKenzie on the left and artist Trevor Jones on the right. Martyn attended Trevor’s solo exhibition in November 2010 and so it was nice (and unsuprising) that Trevor returned the gesture. Martyn has a lot of respect for his peers, but it’s also great that those more established are so supportive of him. To me that’s such a special thing. That’s what it’s all about.
